State of the States

Hello people of the internets,

Unfortunately, our multi-instrumentalist, Joe Tanner, has decided to leave the band. You can read his farewell address here. The departure is amicable, so don’t fret!

Moving forward into 2010, we will be taking some time away from playing shows to focus on new material and, of course, building (and rebuilding) our amplifiers and effects. We are excited to see what the future holds for the next phase of Good Night, States and you will be the first to know (as long as you visit this site often).

So, we hope your 2010 has been good thus far and that it only gets better.

See you soon,
Good Night, States

New Video!

This past July, we had the privilege of spending a few weekends with our good friend David Mattson. While David was with us, he shot some rehearsal and live footage. The footage was carefully compiled into a video for “Only Thing” from Short Films on Self-Control.

Check it out on the VIDEO page. We hope you enjoy it!

Brillobox Recap

Thanks to everyone who made this past Saturday at Brillobox so great!

If you missed it, here’s the highlight reel:

  • The Bloodsugars went on first and filled the room with their infectious indie-disco-funk-rock. They had everyone moving by the end of their set! There were also two broken guitar strings and they never missed a beat.
  • The Delicious Pastries invited a DJ friend to spin between sets. He did a great job of matching the inter-set music with the upcoming bands!
  • We played 2nd. The floor was packed with people for the set. It was really great to have people singing along with all the words. It’s a bit strange to get used to.
  • The Delicious Pastries closed out the night with the unveiling of their new lineup. Watching Jesse on the drums lived up to everything that one could hope for!

Also, The Bloodsugars released their new album entitled, “I Can’t Go On, I’ll Go On” a week or so ago and it’s great. Fans of Michael Jackson will love it! Get it at theboodsugars.com.

We’ll be rubbing the fuzzy wallpaper at Brillobox this Saturday Night!

Hello, friends of Good Night, States!

Join us this Saturday evening at Brillobox in Pittsburgh for a great show with our friends The Bloodsugars and Delicious Pastries.  Someone with a diabetic sense of humor put both of those bands on the same bill!

But seriously, we think both of these bands are supertalented and we are thrilled to be playing with them.

You can pick up our signed, numbered In The Impossible Tension EP for $10 at the show (remember, we’re only selling them in person, not online).  Here’s what a French blog had to say about the new EP: yes, it’s in French.  Perhaps you prefer something in English?

Music lovers, we will see you soon.

Good Night, States Ringtones on Locally Toned

Good Night, States recently spent an evening recording ringtones for Locally Toned.

Locally Toned is a Pittsburgh-based original ringtone/public art project that seeks to capture sounds/tones/etc that Pittsburghers feel are sweet sounds that they wish to share. These tones/sounds are posted on the project’s site along with a description of who created the tone and why they chose to share it with the public.

Since there are five members of Good Night, States, Locally Toned has chosen to make this week “Good Night, States Week” on the blog. There will be a new post each day (monday-friday) that features a ringtone created by each member of the band.

The List of Featured Tones:

Stay tuned for more tones each day! The tones are free to download here. Enjoy!

World renowned fame for “iPhone musicians” Good Night, States!

Oh goodness, look at the press coverage!

Good Night, States’ iPhone/iPod touch story was picked up by Engadget.com, rumored to be one of the top English language blogs in the world. People who have never heard of Good Night, States are now calling us “famous”, while the app’s developers refer to us in the iTunes store as “world renowned musicians Good Night, States.” Other folks on Twitter are just calling us “insane geeks”, which is fine too.

In light of all the comments generated on the Engadget post, we want to encourage all you regular folk out there to watch the videos, read Steve’s latest blog post, and download the app. We created this play-along opportunity for you; yes, even you who have never touched a real synthesizer in your life. Noise.io provides an easy, fun way for people to participate with us - you don’t have to be a tech guru or even a musician to add to the performance at our next show, so don’t be shy. We’ll have our set list posted on The Box, where the input for your device attaches, at the front of the stage. Check it out in advance so you know exactly when your favorite play-along song is coming. Team up with a friend, because two people can play at once!

If an Apple app isn’t your style, wander over to the merch table to check out our new t-shirt design. Good Night, States will give a FREE t-shirt, autographed by world renowned us, to the person identifying the inspiration for the design, hand drawn by artist Nicolena Loshonkol. Hint: it fits our tech geek “scheme” to a tee. Email contest@goodnightstates.com with your guess!

Only the best intentions for everyone

Wow!

We’re very excited, humbled, and honored to have our iPhone/iPod Touch experiment featured on engadget.com and synthtopia.com!

Steve has weighed in on some of the feedback that the engadget/synthtopia coverage has garnered.

If this is your first time visiting the site, please visit the MUSIC page and check out some of our catalog (a lot of it is available at a pay-what-you-want pricing plan!).

Thanks for stopping by!
