Good Night, States Ringtones on Locally Toned

Good Night, States recently spent an evening recording ringtones for Locally Toned.

Locally Toned is a Pittsburgh-based original ringtone/public art project that seeks to capture sounds/tones/etc that Pittsburghers feel are sweet sounds that they wish to share. These tones/sounds are posted on the project’s site along with a description of who created the tone and why they chose to share it with the public.

Since there are five members of Good Night, States, Locally Toned has chosen to make this week “Good Night, States Week” on the blog. There will be a new post each day (monday-friday) that features a ringtone created by each member of the band.

The List of Featured Tones:

Stay tuned for more tones each day! The tones are free to download here. Enjoy!

World renowned fame for “iPhone musicians” Good Night, States!

Oh goodness, look at the press coverage!

Good Night, States’ iPhone/iPod touch story was picked up by Engadget.com, rumored to be one of the top English language blogs in the world. People who have never heard of Good Night, States are now calling us “famous”, while the app’s developers refer to us in the iTunes store as “world renowned musicians Good Night, States.” Other folks on Twitter are just calling us “insane geeks”, which is fine too.

In light of all the comments generated on the Engadget post, we want to encourage all you regular folk out there to watch the videos, read Steve’s latest blog post, and download the app. We created this play-along opportunity for you; yes, even you who have never touched a real synthesizer in your life. Noise.io provides an easy, fun way for people to participate with us - you don’t have to be a tech guru or even a musician to add to the performance at our next show, so don’t be shy. We’ll have our set list posted on The Box, where the input for your device attaches, at the front of the stage. Check it out in advance so you know exactly when your favorite play-along song is coming. Team up with a friend, because two people can play at once!

If an Apple app isn’t your style, wander over to the merch table to check out our new t-shirt design. Good Night, States will give a FREE t-shirt, autographed by world renowned us, to the person identifying the inspiration for the design, hand drawn by artist Nicolena Loshonkol. Hint: it fits our tech geek “scheme” to a tee. Email contest@goodnightstates.com with your guess!

Bring your iPhone to the next Good Night, States show!

At the next Good Night, States show (and beyond), you (the show attendee) will have the opportunity to participate in the performance!

Steve has programmed a bank of sounds for the Noise.io iPhone/iPod Touch synth app. This bank of sounds, combined with the audio interface that will be at the front of the stage, will allow you to play along with the band.

Steve has posted instructional videos and written out instructions for how to use the app at the shows. You can view/download the instructions here. You can view the instructional videos here, here, and here.

If you have any questions, you can email steve [at] goodnightstates [dot] com.

Millennium Music Conference Recap

We of Camp GN,S have been in good spirits lately. After being treated particularly well by the good people of Fredericksburg, VA, Good Night, States attended Millennium Music Conference 13 in Harrisburg, PA where we played two showcases and made some very encouraging music industry connections. MMC was like every conference you’ve ever been to: giant nametags on lanyards, drawstring bags full of useless swag, and cramped seating for discussion panels in thickly carpeted hotel conference rooms. Unique to this event, however, were the attendees, loosely clumping together in the halls by genre: colored mohawks, leather pants, and metal studded jackets or skinny jeans, faux bedhead hair and slouchy posture. Plus a handful of sweet faced, confused-looking singer-songwriter types attempting to navigate the conference alone. Long live the music industry!

A Howling Apology!

We apologize to those of you who arrived at the posted time, 8 pm, for our February 6 Howler’s show. The show clearly did not start anywhere near 8 pm, and we’d like to send you something for your trouble. Please email press[at]goodnightstates[dottttt]com with the subject “I DEMAND better customer service from your disorganized rock band!” (or something to that effect) and we’ll take care of you!
